![]() He gave me the correct search criteria to search with on the internet, so the search was on again, but now in the right direction. One day while working my part-time job I was talking about my new found freedom from Cable TV with a fellow co-worker, who had cut the cable a couple years back. We had our subscriptions to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, but we were determined not to go back to Cable TV. The answers of course were not easy to find, the internet kept pushing us toward Netflix, Sling, Hulu Live Stream, Prime Video, YouTube TV, Pluto, Tubi, and etc. Now that we cut our Cable TV out of our lives, the answer to our new found freedom from the Cable TV Company was waiting for us somewhere out there on the World-Wide Internet. Our Spectrum Bundle Package Agreement ended on Jand we Cut the TV Cable, but we signed up for Internet Cable only through Spectrum. We signed up with a Spectrum Bundle Package of Cable and Internet for one year. When I retired from my position with The Boeing Company in 2018 in Washington State, we moved to South Carolina to enjoy the warm weather, lower cost of living, a slower pace of life, the beaches, and the wonderful friendly people of South Carolina. Granted, I realize that many of you are paying more than $150 per month, just to watch TV, Internet, and Phone. That is a good chunk of money just for TV / Internet entertainment. At this time, we were paying subscriptions for: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, plus our Cable / Internet to the tune of about $1,764 per year. On FebruSling TV entered the arena of possibilities, but we could not justify trading our Cable / Internet bill for the Sling TV subscription bill per month, since we knew that we would need to retain the Internet part of our monthly bill. VHS was giving way to the DVD and later the Blue-ray, with all this we still could not find an answer to Cutting the Cable that would satisfy our needs. We already had a sizable VHS tape library of movies. We subscribed to Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video subscription services. In 1998 we actively started looking and trying to think of ways to Cut the Cable. ![]() Some customers though would move on to another Cable Company if available, with a similar Introductory Rate offer, or some would sign up with a Satellite Dish service with a very large dish antenna in their yard.Īs for our family, we have subscribed to several Cable or Fiber-Optic Services like: Verizon, Comcast, AT&T, and our latest is Spectrum. Many who complained would settle for a lessor value Bundle Package deal at the same or similar rate which they were paying during the Introductory Rate of the Contract Agreement. Some people of course had forgotten that their Contract Agreement with their Service Provider had a rate increase built into the contract and would complain to a very caring Customer Service Specialist, highly trained to keep you as a customer. This worked very well for the Cable and Satellite Companies and they were able to gain a larger Customer Base. At the end of the contract agreement the Cable Companies would drop the Introductory Rate and raise the price to their Standard Rate for each of Bundle Packages. They provided the customers with a Basic Bundle Package and later Multiple Levels of Premium Bundle Packages, each offering more standard channels, more movie channels, more sports, and making available Premium Channels like: (HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc.) with a two year Contract Agreement. ![]() To gain more customers, the Cable and Satellite Companies found if they offered customers a Low Introductory Subscription Rate for all Bundle Packages they were able to gain more customers. Only later, did the Cable Companies add Internet Services to our Bundle Packages so they could raise our rates. ![]() Since most people only had one Television this was a great deal. The Cable Companies offered everyone a Basic Bundle Package: a Land-Line Telephone and a Set Top Cable Box for your one Television. Throughout the years many of us migrated to Cable or Satellite dish, this was 1980 for us. Of course we only had 3 good channels and 2 not that good channels to choose from in those years, so going outside and adjusting the antenna was not a big deal, except in the winter or pouring down rain. We started out watching Television connected to an antenna either inside the home or an outdoor antenna on the roof or as we had on a steel pipe so that we could adjust the direction of the antenna by hand to get better signal and reception from the channel we wanted to watch. The one reason we all seem to have in common is the high cost of television Cable or Satellite TV services. ![]()
